There used to be community modules that added this to the SRD, but that person works on contract now with the intent to add in those automation macros to the DLC books so not sure if they still support the community version. You can absolutely homebrew and hand enter things and use the automation built into the ruleset. FG comes with all the D&D/PF rulesets with core.
Misconception about FG, you do not need to buy the core rulebook to get the ruleset automation. Discuss this with the group before buying anything, really. This is going to depend on your players and what books they want to draw from, though, and if you're paying for everything, you'll need to figure out if someone is comfortable entering things you don't want to buy right away or if you're going to limit characters to the books you have, etc. If you're set on continuing to use Fantasy Grounds, the most important things are going to be books with player options (CRB, APG being the biggest ones), Bestiaries, and if you're using a published adventure, obviously that. There are other options out there as well, but Foundry gets a lot of good word of mouth for a reason. It's also a lot more user friendly than FG, in my experience. You can then use a module to import info from any PDFs you own from Paizo - if you're not running a published adventure, that probably means only Bestiaries for the images. the others available, and can be hosted locally without extra cost.
Foundry has very good support for PF2 vs.
If you don't need the full automation, you may be better off looking at other VTTs. If you're using it for 5e, you're probably familiar with this already. Sure, you can get by with the CRB and Bestiary, but especially if your players like to grab character options from all over or you're running a published adventure, it can get very expensive very quickly, or someone will have to spend a lot of time entering information. Fantasy Grounds has probably the best automation of any VTT I've heard of, but it also has by far the biggest up-front cost. Kind of depends on what you want out of it. Sure FG gets you the PDFs but buying them to use them on Foundry later is just setting yourself up for a huge sunk cost, especially if you fall into their trap of buy everything for 15% off collections or better at holiday sales. So there is always a poster complaining when FG will support the latest thing on the street, with white knights telling them to shut up and wait.
The FG PDF importer is really only used by those making the adventure DLC as it needs lots of manual intervention to work, and only those on staff or contract can do the DLC. There is no need for an encounter in Foundry you just drag select to put things on the combat tracker and calc XP with a macro. It has always had the maps layers and with the PDF importer now doing tokens they are also preplacing the encounters (latest adventures wait for backlog to catchup). The Foundry PDF importer has always been better than FG, and the community author makes every attempt at street date, their support for PFS is fantastic.
